We are always looking for new members.
We are a pretty small club with 25 members that all live in Lake County. We meet formally on the 4th Thursday of every month except November and December when we meet on the 2nd Thursday. These meetings are held at members homes and are intended as an opportunity to sample member's homebrews and maybe a few interesting commercial examples. Each meeting has an educational component where a topic of interest is presented by a club member and a formal component to discuss any club business and future events. We meet informally if there is interest on the 2nd Thursday of each month at some brew pub, but this is only if there is interest. This is a chance to get out of the house, kick back, and enjoy a few excellent beers at a local tavern or brewpub with fellow club members. Our dues are $24 per year payable in January, or $2/month if you join mid-year. We sponsor a winter dinner at a brew pub, the Leap Beer competition in February (~350 entries), a “teach a friend to brew” event in May, an annual summer picnic, a mead making day in August, we organize a bus to the Great Taste of the Midwest beer fest in Madison (also in August), and host an Oktoberfest in September/October. The club periodically purchases equipment for the use of its members including outdoor tents, large brew kettles, burners, etc.
Of the 25 members there are varying level of skills and brewing systems. There are several extract brewers (some VERY good) and many all-grainers. We have a couple of professional brewers and several BJCP certified judges. Club members are from varying backgrounds including computer geeks, musicians, environmental scientists, printing professionals, and people that work in other white and blue collar jobs. We even have some retirees – in other words, a complete mixed bag.
The brewers are above average and the variety and experimental nature of the concoctions produced make every meeting interesting and fresh. If you would like to join us at our next formal meeting, please a note to:
